AMSTERDAM - Nizozemska kraljica Beatrix (75) objavila je u ponedjeljak da će abdicirati u korist svog sina, princa Willema-Alexandera (45), koji će postati kralj 30. travnja.

U televizijskom obraćanju javnosti nizozemska je kraljica rekla da odstupa sa dužnosti jer osjeća da je njen sin spreman da preuzme prijestolje. Willem-Alexander oženjen je princezom Maximom Zorriguetom i imaju troje djece.

Kraljica Beatrix je na prijestolje došla 1980. godine nakon abdikacije njene majke kraljice Julijane koja je vladala 31 godinu.
