Trojicu željezničkih radnika optuženih za nemar u jednoj od najtežih željezničkih nesreća u povijesti Kanade u kojoj je u srpnju 2013. u Lac-Meganticu u Quebecu poginulo 47 ljudi, porota je oslobodila u petak nakon tri mjeseca suđenja.

Bivši strojovođa u kompaniji Montreal, Maine & Atlantic (MMA), Thomas Harding, prometnik Richard Labrie i njihov šef Jean Demaitre rekli su da nisu krivi ni po jednoj od 47 točaka optužnice koja ih je, svakog pojedinačno, teretila za "zločinački nemar".

Za takve slučajeve je moguća doživotna zatvorska kazna.

Željeznička kompozicija sa 72 cisterne s naftom ostavljena bez nadzora na vrhu brežuljka pokrenula se 6. srpnja 2013. u noći, dobila ubrzanje i iskočila iz tračnica u središtu Lac-Megantica.

Gotovo svi vagoni su eksplodirali, dignuvši u zrak tridesetak zgrada i nagnavši na evakuaciju trećinu od 6.000 stanovnika tog mjesta u Apalačkom gorju, 250 km istočno od Montreala.
